My Freestyle Fitness Trainer – Angelita Dixon-Worthy
Freestyle Fitness Trainer
As far back as I can remember, I have always struggled to maintain a healthy weight. The women in my family have a history of being busty and hippy and I didn’t miss out on my share. I loved who I was, but I knew I was unhealthy. By the time I was 40, my weight had spiraled to over 200 lbs and it continued to climb steadily thereafter.
In 2005 weighing in at 285 lbs, I underwent a gastric bypass procedure to help jump start my weight loss efforts. That started a long, challenging journey to my goal weight of 155 lbs that included many failed nutrition plans and exercise programs. I didn’t favor working out but made myself do it, though not routinely. I began running and also maintained a gym membership “somewhere”. I was inconsistent with exercise routines, but had a special love for running, aerobics and dancing. I have always loved to dance.
This is what caught my attention about dance fitness and Zumba! While drudging through my workout at the gym one day, I heard dance music coming from one of the class rooms. I finished my routine and went to see what the music was about. I melted in the back of the class and began moving to the rhythm. Before I knew it, I had danced my way through my first Zumba class and I was so excited when it was over that I immediately checked the schedule for the day and time of the next class. And you know it, I was there. I never missed a class for the next 6 months. Zumba helped me to get toned in some trouble areas, loose weight by burning calories, and just have plain ole fun while doing it.
I became a licensed Zumba instructor 6 months after that and the rest is history. My love for dance fitness was the catalyst that moved me to get licensed in other genres of Zumba Fitness while adding certifications for Primary Group Fitness, Dance Fitness, and Jazzercise. It is a pleasure to share my love for dance fitness. I love it because it provides the opportunity to fuse toning exercises into dance routines that get you up, keep you moving. Clients share the same enthusiasm that keeps them motivated to work it, work it, and work it. I get excited about opportunities to bring the exhilaration of Zumba and other genres of fitness to the community through group fitness classes for all ages and fitness levels, demos, expos, conventions, festivals, as well as school and church events.
I currently work at home in “Corporate America” and will continue to expand my knowledge in fitness.
