Benefits of A Hip Hop Cardio Class

hip hop cardioSome of the best cardio workouts I have ever had have been in a Hip Hop Cardio class.  I love the bold moves.  Hip Hop Cardio can be used as a fun alternative that helps you achieve aerobic and anaerobic benefits. Like Zumba, the aerobic benefits of it occur because it can be used as a cardio exercise that gets your heart pumping and your breathing rate up. The anaerobic benefits of it occur because it can be used to strengthen your thighs, glutes, calves and other muscles in your legs and arms. Best of all, hip hop dance puts less of an impact of your feet and knees so you can do it in order to give your body a new way of working out. Here are some of the other benefits that you can achieve through hip hop cardio.

Any exercise that gets your heart rate up and causes your body to require additional oxygen has aerobic benefits. Hip hop dance is especially good for you aerobically because most hip hop dance classes require you to keep moving and active for up to an hour. During that entire time, your body is taking in oxygen, transporting it to your muscles, and helping you to burn fat in the process. As a result of this, hip hop cardio is very good for your health. It can help you to lose weight, lower your blood pressure, reduce your stress and even give you a boost of energy.

While hip hop cardio is great for you aerobically, it can also work anaerobically to help you strengthen your muscles, too. Every time you complete a step during hip hop cardio, your body is working aerobically. But when you push yourself harder by learning more complex routines and working your muscles beyond a normal workout, you can also work them anaerobically. By doing this, you can help tone your muscles, build up strength in your muscles and even give your joints more flexibility and elasticity. But again, in order to get these anaerobic benefits, you need to learn how to push yourself during a hip hop class. First, make sure you’re doing everything right and can keep up with the proper movements. Be conscious of your range of motion and seek to improve it. Over time, you’ll be able to do them more easily, so you will be able to use hip hop cardio to your advantage.

So, now you know a few of the benefits of a Hip Hop Cardio class.  I’m excited to add Hip Hop Cardio to the Freestyle Fitness schedule as of May 12, 2014.  The first class will debut at Fairview Recreation Center, 35 Austin Road, Stockbridge, GA 30281 on Mondays’ @ 7:30pm,   Freestyle Fitness, newest instructor, Larry Thomas Jr., aka “POP” will be teaching this class.  I ask you not to worry about whether or not you can do it.  If you can Zumba then you can handle Hip Hop Cardio.
